Your Posture is HOW you Balance your Body.
Whether bent forward or straight as an arrow, if you aren’t falling down you are balancing.
How strong your body stands is a different question…
STANDING ONE-LEG BALANCE TEST
This test compares your perception of how well you think you stand (your posture) with reality by testing the strength of your balance.
- Stand up straight and tall
- Lift your right foot off the ground and slowly count to 30
Keep your knee level with your hip
Stop the first time you have to put your foot down or wave your arms to balance.
- Repeat on the other side
Twisting, touching a toe to the ground, or waving arms around to keep from falling are signs of weak balance and poor body control. You should be able to easily balance on each leg for at least 30 seconds.
Weak Posture can cause:
- Back Pain
- Neck Pain
- Shoulder Pain
- Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
- Knee, hip and lower extremity pain
- Joint pain
- Poor balance, fatigue
Compensating to stay upright stresses everything – the mechanics of muscles and joints, from the neck to the low back, from the shoulders to the knees, hands to feet. One reason weak posture is often associated with fatigue is because when the body isn’t well balanced, it takes more energy just to stand up!
